4、ngiblethings，whichmeansLOVEmetaphorsoccuralotinlanguages．Since1980s，manyscholarsinChinaandforeigncountrieshavedonelotsofresearchonvarioushumanemotions，inwhichstudyoflovehasreceivedspecialhighattention．However'mostresearchbooksandpaperstakeloveaslovebetweenlovers．Infact，l

5、ovemeansnotonlylovebetweenloversbutalsothekinshiploveandfriendshiplove(TheAmericanHeritageDictionaryoftheEnglishLanguage1982)．LoveamongfamilymembersandMendsarealsoindispensablepartsofhumanlove．Butpreviousstudiespaidlittleattentiontothem．ThestudyofLOVEmetaphorsinforeignco

6、untriesisrelativelyaffluent，althoughinitloveismainlydefinedaslovebetweenlovers，butinChinaresearchonLOVEmetaphorsisrelativelyinsufficientandlackofdepth．Thisthesistakesconceptualmetaphorsof‘‘LOVE’’astheobjectofstudy,anditpointsoutthattheconnotationof‘‘LOVE’’includesthreema
