3、eratureaswellasininstitutionaldiscourse,especiallynewsreportsandTVinterviews.Previousstudiesmainlyfocusonverbswhichsignalreportedspeech,linguisticstructuresinwhichreportingverbsfunctionandtransformationsamongdifferenttypesofreportedspeech,regardlessoftheinfluenceso

4、fcontextualfactors.Thedataofpreviousstudiesaremainlydrawnfromnarrativediscoursecontextssuchasliteratureworks.ThispapertakesthereportedspeechinChineseTVinterviewsasitsresearchobjectandmanagestoexplorethefeaturespresentedinactualcommunicationandpragmaticfunctions,whi

5、chcontributetohelpingpeoplegetabettercomprehensionofreportedspeechandsuccessfullyapplythemtoachievecommunicativeintentions.Languageuseisconstantlyadjustedtothechoicesmadeinadynamicprocess.Theadaptabilityoflanguageallowsinterlocutorstoflexiblymakeachoiceamongalterna

6、tiveoptionssoastomeettheneedsofcommunication.BasedonAdaptationTheory,astudyonfeaturesandpragmaticfunctionsofreportedspeechcanrevealthetruththatreportedspeechcanbeemployedasacommunicativestrategytoachievecertaincommunicativepurposesandintentions.Theresearchinthisthe

7、sistakesquantitativeandqualitativeanalysesasthemajormethods.Thedataarecollectedfrom10episodesinADatewithLuyuonAnhuiTVfromtheyear2010to2013,withalengthof6.5hours,atotaltranscriptionof4312sentences,amongwhichreportedspeechreaches1606andaccountfor37%intheentiretranscr

8、iptsentences.Thethemesofthesetranscriptionsareselectedfromawiderangeoftopics.Theinvitedguests,withdifferenteducationbackgrounds,arefromdifferentf
