3、ctioningoftheCentremaybesummarizedasfollows:everyyear,duringthesummer,Sessions(threeorfourasarule)ondifferentthemesfrompureandappliedmathematicsareofferedbyapplicationtomathematiciansfromallcountries.Eachsessionisgenerallybasedonthreeorfourmaincourses(24¡30hoursove
4、raperiodof6-8workingdays)heldfromspe-cialistsofinternationalrenown,plusacertainnumberofseminars.AC.I.M.E.Session,therefore,isneitheraSymposium,norjustaSchool,butmaybeablendofboth.Theaimisthatofbringingtotheattentionofyoungerresearcherstheorigins,laterdevelopments,a
5、ndperspectivesofsomebranchoflivemathematics.Thetopicsofthecoursesaregenerallyofinternationalresonanceandtheparticipationofthecoursescovertheexpertiseofdifferentcountriesandcontinents.Suchcombination,gaveanexcellentopportu-nitytoyoungparticipantstobeacquaintedwithth
