6、etybymyown.iiAbstractRegisterisanimportantconceptinSystemicFunctionalLinguistics,whichcanbesimplydefinedasafunctionalvarietyoflanguageaccordingtouse.Itisconstitutedbythreecontextualvariables,namely,field,tenorandmode.Fieldisconcernedwiththetopicortheco
7、ntentofactivities,i.e.whatisgoingon;tenorreferstotherole-relationshipbetweeninteractants,focusingonwhoistakingpart;andmodereferstotherolethatthelanguageisplayingintheinteractiveprocess.Intranslation,theequivalencebetweenthesourcetextandtargettextcannot
8、beconfinedtotheformalcorrespondenceinlexiconandgrammar.Moreimportant,theyshouldachievethefunctionalequivalenceinregister.ByconductingtheregisteranalysisofEnglishlegislativetexts,thisthesisfindsthattheEnglishlegislativetexthasatechnicalf
