4、andsgreaterattentiontothewaysinwhichgenderandfamilycharacteristicsshapecareersthanhasbeenpaidbytraditionalresearch.Thispaperaddressestheseissues,examiningthedeterminantsandconsequencesofintra-organizationalandinter-organizationalmobility,usingasampleofemployeesfromdual-earnercouples.Wefindsig

5、nificantgenderdifferencesinthesedifferenttypesofcareermobility,andintheeffectoffamilyrelationsondifferentformsofmobility.Womenexperiencemoreinter-organizationalmobility,whilemenexperiencemoreintra-organizationalmobility.Havingmorechildrenpositivelyinfluencesmen’sintra-organizationalmobility,b

6、utincreasesinterorganizationalmobilityforwomen.Maritalinstabilityincreasesintra-organizationalmobilityamongwomen,buthasnoeffectamongmen.Eachformofmobilityhasdistinctiveeffectsonobjectiveandsubjectiveindicatorsofcareersuccessforbothmenandwomen.Movingbetweenorganizationstendstodepressearnings,b
