5、nfied.Fewstudies,however,haveexaminedtheextenttowhichcorporationsopposeoneanother.ThisstudyexaminesthedeterninantsofcorporatepoliticalconflictbyfocusingontheextenttowhichpairsoffirmscontributedtoopposingCongressionalcandidatesinthe1980elections.Usingasampleof1,596dyadscreate
6、dbyrelationsamong57flrms,severalhypothesesabouttheeffectsofinterfirmsocialandeconomicrelationsonpoliticaloppositionaretested.Variablesfoundtodecreasethelikelihoodofpoliticaloppositionincludedcommonstockholdings,directorinterlockswiththesamefinancialinstitutions,membershipint
7、hesameprimaryindustry,andmarketconstraintrelationsbetweentheindustriesinwhichfirmsproduce.Thefindingsareconsistentwithargumentsthatsuggesttheimportanceofsocialandeconomicnetworksindeterringconflictamongfirms.Politicalsociologistshavefocusedconsiderableattentionontheextenttow
