4、aryaimofthisbookistohelptheexperimentalorganicchemistwithheterogeneouscatalyticmethodsformakingandbreakingbonds.Thisbookhastwointentions.First,itisintendedtoservethegraduatestudentsinorganicchemistrywhoneedtoroundouttheireducationandlearnabouthet-erogeneouscatalysisandthemech
5、anismsoforganicreactionsonsurfaces.Second,itisintendedtoaidthebrightorganicchemistswhohavepreparedthenextcompoundthatwillgreatlyimprovethepositionoftheircompanybutwhohavejustbeeninformedbytheirsupervisorsthattheymustmaketheirsyntheticstepsintoheterogeneouscatalyticsteps.Thene
6、edtodemystifyheterogeneousorganicreactionmechanismsisvital.Innootherfieldoforganicchemistryarethereactionscloudedwithfolklore.Nowhereisthereagreaterneedtoclarifyafieldthatisgraduallycomingoutofitsempiricalageandintoitsscientificage.Butbarriersexist.Onebarrieristhestartlinglackof
7、anyrequirementsbymanyjournaleditorstopublishchar-acterizationinformationaboutthecatalystsusedinsyntheticpreparations.Thisneedisignoredinspiteofwell-documentedfactsthatthestructureofthecatalystanditspreparationandhistoryinfluenceitsactivityandselectivity.Notrequiringsuchinforma
