4、fectofcarnosineandcarnitineasnaturaldietarysupplementsisassessed.METHODS:Singlecellgelelectrophoresis(cometassays)wereperformedonbraincortexandmedullasamplesafterremovalfromninegroupsofhamstersincluding:acontrol(untreated)group;PA-intoxicatedgroup;clindamycintreatedgroup;
5、clindamycin-carnosinegroupand;clindamycin-carnitinegroup.RESULTS:Thereweresignificantdoublestrandbreaksrecordedastaillength,tailmomentand%DNAdamageinPAandclindamycin-treatedgroupsforthecortexandmedullacomparedtothecontrolgroup.Neuroprotectiveeffectsofcarnosineandcarnitine
6、wereobserved.ReceiverOperatingCharacteristicscurve(ROC)analysisshowedsatisfactoryvaluesofsensitivityandspecificityofthecometassayparameters.CONCLUSION:PercentageDNAdamage,taillength,andtailmomentareadequatebiomarkersofPAneurotoxicityduetooraladministrationorasametaboliteo
