3、epreviouslyacquired.ItisatrendthatschematheoryisappliedinEnglishreadingteaching.ItisalsonecessaryforEnglishreadingteachingtoenrichitselfbyadoptingtheschematheory.Thedevelopmentofstudents’readingabilityhasalwaysbeenoneoftheprimaryobjectivesinEnglishteaching.However,Englishr

4、eadingteachinghasbeeninfluencedbythetraditionalteachingmethod,takingthewordsandgrammarasthemainteachinggoal,neglectingthetrainingofreadingskillsandtheusingof“schemata”knowledge.ThispaperdiscussesthetypesandfunctionsoftheschemaknowledgeonEnglishreading,andpointsouthowschema

5、theoryistobeappliedtoEnglishreadingclasses.Teachersshouldguidethestudentstomakethebestoftheschemaknowledge,soastoimprovetheirEnglishreadingabilitiesandarousetheirEnglishreadinginterests.Schemacanbeusedintheunderstandingofthelanguage,readersuseschematofillininformationthati

6、sn’tmentionedexplicitly.Whenreadinganewtext,readersneedtheabilitytorelatethetextualmaterialstotheirownpriorknowledgestoredintheirminds,becauseunderstandingandexplanationofnewknowledgedependuponschematastoredinone’smind.Soitisveryimportantforteachersandstudentstounderstandt
