4、ryanphysicsinGermany.JusthowcontroversialthetheoriesofrelativityremainedforlessflexiblymindedphysicistsisrevealedinthecircumstancessurroundingEinstein'sreceptionofaNobelPrizein1921--awardednotforrelativitybutforhis1905workonthephotoelectriceffect.WiththeriseoffascisminGermany,
5、Einsteinmoved,in1933totheUnitedStatesandabandonedhispacifism.Hereluctantlyagreedthatthenewmenacehadtobeputdownthroughforceofarms.InthiscontextEinsteinsentaletter,in1939,toPresidentFranklinD.RooseveltthaturgedthattheUnitedStatesproceedtodevelopanatomicbombbeforeGermanydid.Thele
