4、ionsinceSchachter(1974)firstlyputforwardthenotionofavoidancephenomenon.However,mostoftargetstructuresinquestionwererelativeclausesorphrasalverbs.Studiesdevotedspecificallytopassivestructuresandsomeotherlanguagefeaturescanbebarelybespotted.Moreover,researchesofavoidancephenomenoninC

5、hinastartedmuchlaterthanthatabroad,amongwhichquantitativeandqualitativeresearcheswererelativelyfew.Therefore,thisthesisintendstoinvestigateandanalyzeavoidancephenomenonofEnglishpassivestructures.Onaccountoftheaboveconsideration,atestandaninterviewstudyhavebeencarriedoutinthecurrent

6、research.Themainbodyofthetestconsistsoffourminortests.ThetestsusedincurrentstudyareadaptedfromKleinmann‟s(1977)testsdesigninhisstudyonthestrategyofavoidanceinadultsecondlanguageacquisition.Freecompositiontest,indirectpreferenceassessmenttest,passivecomprehensiontestandpassiveproduc

7、tiontestweregiven.ThisstudyaimstoexploretowhatextentChineselearnersofEnglisharedifferentfromGermansubjectsindicatedbytheirproductionofEnglishpassiveinwriting.IfthereisasignificantdifferencebetweentheChineseandGermansubjectsonproducingEnglishpassivesinwriting,canthisdifferencebeattr
