2、epted10July2006Abstract:Thepromiseoffuelcellsystemsusingliquidfuels,suchasthedirectmethanolfuelcell(DMFC)anddirectborohydridefuelcell(DBFC),tocomplementorsubstituteforexistingbatteriesisbecomingrecognized,alongwiththeirpotentialasafuturetechnologyformobileandportablepowersu
3、pplies.Thekeyissueiswhichtypeoffuelcellismorecompetitiveforsuchpowersupplies:DMFCorDBFC?Toanswerthisquestion,thepresentstudyanalyzesanddiscussestherelativecompetitivenessofthesetwosystemsgiventhecurrentstatusofthetechnologiesandassumingsomegenerallyacceptedconditions.Thefin
4、dingsconfirmthattheDBFCsystemissuperiortotheDMFCsystemintermsofcellsizeandfuel(orfuelsolution)consumption.Thus,theDBFCsystemisbettersuitedtoapplicationsthatrequiresmalloperationalspace.Ontheotherhand,thetotaloperatingcostsofDBFCsystemsarehigherthanthoseofDMFCsystems.Accordi
