3、plepreviouslyacquired.ItisatrendthatschematheoryisappliedinEnglishreadingteaching.ItisalsonecessaryforEnglishreadingteachingtoenrichitselfbyadoptingtheschematheory.Thedevelopmentofstudents’readingabilityhasalwaysbeenoneoftheprimaryobjectivesinEnglishteaching.However,Engli
4、shreadingteachinghasbeeninfluencedbythetraditionalteachingmethod,takingthewordsandgrammarasthemainteachinggoal,neglectingthetrainingofreadingskillsandtheusingof“schemata”knowledge.ThispaperdiscussesthetypesandfunctionsoftheschemaknowledgeonEnglishreading,andpointsouthowsc
5、hematheoryistobeappliedtoEnglishreadingclasses.Teachersshouldguidethestudentstomakethebestoftheschemaknowledge,soastoimprovetheirEnglishreadingabilitiesandarousetheirEnglishreadinginterests.Schemacanbeusedintheunderstandingofthelanguage,readersuseschematofillininformation
6、thatisn’tmentionedexplicitly.Whenreadinganewtext,readersneedtheabilitytorelatethetextualmaterialstotheirownpriorknowledgestoredintheirminds,becauseunderstandingandexplanationofnewknowledgedependuponschematastoredinone’smind.Soitisveryimportantforteachersandstudentstounder
