1、NoticinginSLAAbstract:Thisarticlefocusesontheroleof“noticing”and“noticingthegap”insecondlanguageacquisition.Itisarguedthatthisnotionhasgainedwidesupportonthebasisofintuitionandassumptionratherthanonthefindingsofappropriateandexhaustiveempiricalresearch.Theaimofthispaperistwofold:a)tocon
2、siderthetheoreticalconstructsthatunderlietheroleofnoticing,andb)toassessthevalidityoftheassumptionthatnoticingenhanceslanguageacquisition.Thispaperconcludesthat1)empiricalresearchhasyettovalidatetheroleofnoticinginlanguageacquisition,2)analternativeviewofferedbyTruscott(1998),whichsugge
3、ststhatnoticingismerelytiedtotheacquisitionofmetalinguisticknowledge,isworthyofinvestigation,and3)futureresearchintotherelationshipbetweentraininglearnerstonoticelinguisticformsandtheacquisitionofmetalinguisticknowledgemayenhanceourunderstandingofnoticinginsecondlanguageacquisition.Keyw
