2、equestions,thepaperisorganizedintwoparts.Inthefirstpart,thedefinitionofauthenticmaterialsisgiven.Thenadvantagesanddisadvantagesoftheuseofauthenticmaterialsarediscussed.Inthesecondpart,thedefinitionofcultureisgivenandthen,whyandhowculturalcontentshouldbeusedisdiscussed.IntroductionTheu
3、seofauthenticmaterialsinanEFLclassroomiswhatmanyteachersinvolvedinforeignlanguageteachinghavediscussedinrecentyears.WehaveheardpersuasivevoicesinsistingthattheEnglishpresentedintheclassroomshouldbeauthentic,notproducedforinstructionalpurposes.Generally,whatthismeansismaterialswhichinv
4、olvelanguagenaturallyoccurringascommunicationinnative-speakercontextsofuse,orratherthoseselectedcontextswherestandardEnglishisthenorm:realnewspaperreports,forexample,realmagazinearticles,realadvertisements,cookingrecipes,horoscopes,etc.Mostoftheteachersthroughouttheworldagreethatauthe
5、ntictextsormaterialsarebeneficialtothelanguagelearningprocess,butwhatislessagreediswhenauthenticmaterialsshouldbeintroducedandhowtheyshouldbeusedinanEFLclassroom.AuthenticMaterials:DefinitionThedefinitionsofauthenticmaterialsareslightlydifferentinliterature.Whatiscommoninthesedefiniti
6、onsis'exposuretoreallanguageanditsuseinitsowncommunity'.Rogers(1988)definesitas'appropriate'and'quality'intermsofgoals,objectives,learnerneedsandinterestand'natural'intermsofreallifeandmeaningfulcommunication(p.467).Harmer(1991),citedinMatsuta(n.d.,para.1)definesauthentictextsasmateri
7、alswhicharedesignedfornativespeakers;theyarerealtext;designednotforlanguagestudents,butforthespeakersofthelanguage.Jordan(1997,p.113)referstoauthentictextsastextsthatarenotwrittenforlanguageteachingpurposes.Authenticmaterialsissignificantsinceitincreasesstudents'motivationforlearning,
