1、AnExperimentalStudyofLearnerAutonomyinLanguageLearningAbstractAutonomouslearninghasgreatlydevelopedbothontheoryandpracticeeversinceitsappearancein1960s.Ithasbecomeahotissueineducationalfieldoverthepastfortyyearsanditisimportanttocultivatelearners’abilityofself-directedinquiry.Theultimategoalo
2、fquality-orientededucationistopromotelearnerautonomy.Butitspromotionthroughsystematiclearnerdevelopmentisarelativelyrecentphenomenon,letalonetheoneproposedbyScharleandSzabo(2000).Aftersomemodification,theprogramintendstomakethestudentsbeawareoftheimportanceofresponsibleattitudeandindependentl
3、earningability.Thepurposeistodevelopthestudents’learningperformance,giveguidanceontheirlearningstrategies,anddeveloptheirinterestinlanguagelearning.Twonon-Englishmajorclassesparticipatedintheexperiment.Thelearnerdevelopmentprogramlastedforonesemester.Duringthecourse,theSILLquestionnaireandlan
4、guageproficiencytestwereusedandboththemethodsofinterviewandclassroomobservationwereemployed.Besides,studentswereaskedtowriteregularjournalstokeeptrackoftheirlearningexperience.Comparisonsweremadeinthefollowingthreeaspects:thelanguageperformanceinthetest;achangeoflearningstrategies;stimulation
5、ofinterest.Theresultsshowthatusingthecontentofregularschoolclassroomteachingasameaningfulcontextforthedevelopmentofresponsibilitycannotonlyenhancethelearningeffect,butalsosavetimefortheoptionalstrategytraining.Accordingtothescoresinthepost-testareconcerned,theexperimentalgrouphadahighmeanscor
6、ethanthecontrolgroup.Thetwosetsofquestionnaireresultsshowthattheexperimentalgroupbenefitedfromtheprogrambyusingmorelearningstrategies.Besides,mostofthestudentsintheexperimentalgroupreportedahigherinterestinlanguagelearningaftertheexperiment.However,thecontrolgroupshowednogreatdifferenceinallt
