3、Chinese,becauseofthedifferenthistoryandculture.Whenonekindofcolorshasdifferentmeaningsindifferentcultures,wecan’tsaywhichkindoflinguisticexpressionismorereasonable,moreexactandbettertouse.SoacomparativestudyofEnglishandChinesecolorwordsisveryimportanttounderstandEnglishandChineselanguage,cul
4、tureandcross-culturalcommunicationandtheChinese-EnglishCorrespondingRelationshipandtheStrategiesforEnglish-ChineseTranslationofColorWords.II.TheCulturalDifferencesbetweenChineseandEnglishColorWordsA.TheDefinitionandConceptofColorWordsThereareplentyofcolorwordsinbothEnglishandChinese.Definite
5、ly,colorwordsarewordstodescribethecolorofthingsinlanguages.Thephysiologicalresponsethatthecolorcausesashumanvisionhassomecharacteristicsincommon.Aftertheresearchonmorethan100languages,somescholarfoundthateverylanguagehasacertainnumberofcolorwords.LinguistsBerlinandKay(1969)suggeststhattherea
6、reelevenbasiccolorwordsinEnglishafterhisdetailedresearch,theyarewhite,black,red,yellow,green,blue,brown,purple,orange,pink,andgrey.Alsothecolortermscanbeclassifiedasbasiccolortermsandobjectcolorterms.Basiccolortermsmean “wordsusedtodescribethecolorofobjectswhentheyappear”. (LuHongmei,P135,20
