2、dtheirfittotheOracleproposedproducts.OracleproposesHKTtoreplacemostoftheinternalLegacySatelliteSystemsthroughuseofstandardOracleApplications.ThisapproachnotonlybuildsafoundationforfurtherimprovementsusingOracle’sproductsandservicesbutalsogivesanewdimensionofflexibilityonashorttermbasissecur

3、ingmeetingthecriticalY2000deadlineandatthesametimeprovidingtheabilitytoincrementallyimproveHKT’sbusinessoperations.Thisapproachisgoingtobelesscomplexfrombothanimplementationstandpointaswellasfromauseracceptancestandpointasinlongtermtherewillbelessdataredundancyandlesseffortinmaintainingthes

4、atellitesystem.ItisOracle’sopinionthatOption2wouldgivethesafestwaytomeetshorttermgoalsandalsosatisfylongtermstrategicobjectiveswithacosteffectiveprogram.Option2Phase1oftheBusinessSupportSystemwillbepositionedasthecoreelementofHongkongTelecom’sintegratedoperationalandmanagementinformationsys

5、temwhichwillallowLogisticsoperationalanalysisandforecastingatboththemanagementandoperationallevel.ThecoreoftheOption2Phase1solutionistheOracleLogisticsandDistributionPackages.Theseapplicationsoftwarepackagesare“offtheshelf”applicationswhichsupportthebusinessactivitiesofOrderManagement,Purch

6、asingSupplyChainPlanningandDistribution.TheseapplicationshavebeenbuiltusingOracleDeveloper/2000onOracleRDBMS.Surroundingthiscorepackagewillbeaminimumsetofcustomextensionstosupportagreeduponfunctionalitygapsnotsupportedbytheapplications.InitiallythesegapswillbecarefullyreviewedforOption2Phas
