3、asatheoreticalmodelinseveralimportantareasinlisteningandreadingresearch.Thisthesisattemptstoapplyschematheorytotheteachingofreadingcomprehensioninmiddleschool.Twotypesofschemamostoftendiscussedinreadingresearcharecontentschemataandformalschemata.Contentschemataaretheknowledgerelativetothecontent
4、domainofatext;formalschematarefertotheorganizationformsandrhetoricalstructuresofdifferenttypesoftexts.Swales(1990:87)believesthatwhenreadersarefamiliarwithcontentandform,thetextswillberelativelyaccessible.Inordertohelpstudentsunderstandbetter,schemamustbeactivatedandthisactivationrelatestotwobas
5、icmodelsofinformationprocessing,namelybottom-upprocessingandtop-downprocessing.Pre-readingtasksareoftendesignedtoactivateorbuildthestudents'schemata.Theteachercanusesometeachingmethodstoactivate-students'existingschemata.Tosumup,theteachershouldhaveadeepunderstandingthatstudents'schemataplayaver
