3、℃for10 hdurationinordertoachievegoodwearresistancealongwithhighstrengthrequiredfortheslattrackcomponentofaircraft.Themicrostructureofthebasematerialandthenitridedlayerwasexaminedbyopticalandscanningelectronmicroscope,andvariousphasespresentweredetermin
4、edbyX-raydiffraction.Variousproperties,suchas,hardness,casedepth,tensile,impact,fatiguepropertiesandcorrosionresistancewereinvestigatedforbothun-nitridedandion-nitridedmaterials.ItisobservedthatthemicrostructureofthecorematerialremainsunalteredandFe4Ni
5、sformedinthehardenedsurfacelayerafterionnitridingatallthethreetemperaturesemployed.Surfacehardnessincreasessubstantiallyafterionnitriding.Surfacehardnessremainsalmostthesamebutcasedepthincreaseswiththeincreaseinionnitridingtemperatureduetogreaterdiffus
6、ivityathighertemperatures.Tensilestrength,fatiguestrengthandcorrosionresistanceareimprovedbutductilityandenergyabsorbedinimpacttestdecreaseonionnitriding.Theseresultsareexplainedonthebasisofmicrostructuralobservations.Thepropertiesobtainedafterionnitri
