1、DevelopmentofOnABSTRACTThedistanceeducationprogrammeinBangladeshissionsays,揥iththepresenteducationsystemthereshouldbeamplescopeforpart-time,drop-outandirregularstudents,sothattheycanachievehighereducation.Alltheirregularstudentsshouldhavebeengivenscopetositfortheexamination,inthiscase,eveningcoursec
2、anbestarted.Toachievethisgoal,anOpenUniversitycanbestartedlikeU.K.”Bangladeshjoinedtheent,BangladeshOpenUniversity(BOU)oflaunchingthedistanceeducationprogrammeeansincludingtheuseoftechnology.Itintendstoprovideopportunitiesofeducationtoallclassesofpeopleandcreateefficientmanpoprovingthequalityofeduca
3、tion.”Bangladeshhasachievedaliteracyrateof54%.Bangladeshhas15,293highschools,and66,81,212studentsareenrolledyearly.About50%ofthehighschoolstudentsfailtopursuehighereducationduetofinancialconstraints.Manystudentsicallysoundalsofailtocontinuehighereducationbecausetheydonotgetseatsincollegesanduniversi
4、ties,resultinginhugedrop-outs.Duetoseriouseconomicandothersocialpressures,thoseentofBOUandlaunchingof19formaland18non-formalcoursesofdifferentlevelhavefacilitatedenrollmentofover250,000studentsfromalloverBangladesh.BOUorganizesitseducationalprogrammethrough12regionalcentres,80localcentres,andmoretha
5、n800tutorialcentres.Eachregionalandlocalcentreisequippedultimediafacilitiesoftheregionalandlocalcentres.Qualityofanyeducationlargelydependsontheeducationalfacilitiesofferedtostudents.Amongotherthings,accesstoinformationandinformationresourcesarehighlyimportant.Althoughtherearelibraryfacilitiesinther
6、egionalandlocalcentres,thesearenotputerizedandarenottheiroentorfromtheaccesscentre.BOUhasplanstofacilitateaccessofcourseparticipantstoinformationresourcesfromitsheadquartersinGazipur,about30kmfromthecapitalcity.Buttheprogrammecouldnotbeimplementedmainlyduetofinancialconstraints.Tofacilitateandensure
7、aneffectiveandappropriateonlinedistancelearning,onlineaccesstoinformationandinformationresourcesisessentiallyneeded.Bangladeshstillhasahugenumberofdrop-outsadeeasyeducationthroughtheopenlearning/dista
