2、originality asan ideal emergedinEuropeonlyinthe18thcentury,particularlywiththe Romanticmovement.Plagiarismisconsidered academicdishonesty andabreachof journalisticethics.Itissubjecttosanctionslikepenalties,suspension,andeven expulsion.Plagiarismisnota crime  butinacademiaandindus

3、try,itisaserious ethical offense, andcasesofplagiarismcanconstitute copyrightinfringement.WhatisPlagiarism?•Plagiarismisthepracticeofusingorcopyingsomeoneelse’swordsorideasandpretendedthattheyareyours.Plagiarismisaviolationorbreachoflawandethics.•Itisaformofintellectual“theft”,bu

4、tinasenseitisevenworsethantheftbecauseyoupresentthemtootherpeopleasiftheywereyourownwordsandideas,andyoutrytotakecreditforthem.Twotypesofplagiarism•Therearetwobroadtypesofplagiarism:(1)intentionalor4deliberate,(2)unintentionalorcareless.•Whenthewriterpurposefullyhidesthefactthatt

5、hewordsorideashepresentsarethoseofsomeoneelse.Itisaformofstealing.•Unintentionalplagiarismtypicallyoccurswhenthewriterdoesnotcitethesourcecorrectly.ExamplesofPlagiarism:•Inrecentyears,linguistsandlanguageteachersalikehavebecomemuchmoreinterestedinlanguageasitisusedincommunication
