3、chnologythroughwiderdisseminationofresearch,makingitfreeofcharge,andattemptingtoonbuildingtrustwithfacultyandsolving1lessencopyrightrestrictions.LynchstatesthatInstitutionalRepos-copyrightconcerns.Digitalpreservationitories(IRs)areabletoaddresschallenges

4、facedbyfacultymembersandcopyrightmanagementinIRsshouldinattemptingtodisseminatetheirresearchthroughtheInternet,and2toutilizevariousformsofdigitalmediaforscholarlycommunication.bestrengthenedtoincreasefacultyHowever,thepotentialvalueofIRsisnotyetfullyappr

5、eciatedbyparticipation.facultymembers;severalstudiesindicatethatonlyasmallproportion3offacultydepositarticlesordataintoIRs.ThislowrateoffacultyparticipationisacommonphenomenonacrossIRs,andincreasingitisamajorissuefortheongoingsuccessoftherepositories.Thi

6、sstudyexaminestheperceptionsoffacultymembersfrom17Carnegiedoctorate-grantinguniversitiesintheU.S.regardingIRs.Init,Iexplorefacultymotivationsforparticipatingintheiruniversities'IRs.Previousstudieshaveinvestigatedsimilartopics,althoughmosthavefocusedonthe

7、attitudesoffacultyinoneortwouniversities,rather4thanfromanumberofuniversities.Inaddition,somestudieshaveexploredacademicauthors'self-archivingpracticesandcomparedpatternsofusebasedonthesubjectdisciplinesorcountriesfrom5whichthestudyparticipantscame.Anoth

8、erstudyhasinvestigatedtheattitudesofauthors,includingprofessors,lecturers,andresearch6fellowstowardstheIRofoneuniversity.Thesestudies,however,wereconcernedmorewitharangeofacademicauthors'self-archivingbehaviors,thaninfocus
