1、OPENACCESSTORESEARCHOUTPUTS—INSTITUTIONALPOLICIESANDRESEARCHERS’VIEWS:RESULTSFROMTWOCOMPLEMENTARYSURVEYSCLAIRECREASERLISU,LoughboroughUniversity,Loughborough,UKThispaperpresentstheresultsoftwocomplementarysurveysundertakenin2008aspartofawiderprojectinvestigatingtheeffectsand
2、impactofopenaccesstoresearchoutputsintheUK.Theinstitutionalview,fromasurveyofacademiclibrarians,iscomparedtoresearchersperceptionsandpractices.Re-searcherswerelargelyunawareoftheirinstitutionspolicieswithregardtoopenaccess,orwhethertheyhadaninstitutionalrepository.Reasonsfor
3、makingre-searchoutputsavailableonopenaccess,ornotdoingso,weresought,andtheroleofopenaccessmaterialasaresearchresourceinvestigated.Thesurveysfoundthatmanyresearchersmaintainedasuspicionofopenaccesspublications,bothasauthorsandasusersofscholarlymaterial,togetherwithadegreeofig
4、noranceaboutopenaccessandtheroleofinstitutionalrepositories.Thissuggeststhatadegreeofculturechangemaybeneeded,asinstitutionsdeveloprepositorieswithaviewtofutureresearchassessmentrequirements,andmorefundersadoptopenaccessmandatesfortheoutputsfromresearchwhichtheyfund.Keywords
