1、OPENACCESSTORESEARCHOUTPUTS—INSTITUTIONALPOLICIESANDRESEARCHERS’VIEWS:RESULTSFROMTWOCOMPLEMENTARYSURVEYSCLAIRECREASERLISU,LoughboroughUniversity,Loughborough,UKThispaperpresentstheresultsoftwocomplementarysurveysundertakenin2008aspartofawiderprojecti
2、nvestigatingtheeffectsandimpactofopenaccesstoresearchoutputsintheUK.Theinstitutionalview,fromasurveyofacademiclibrarians,iscomparedtoresearchersperceptionsandpractices.Re-searcherswerelargelyunawareoftheirinstitutionspolicieswithregardtoopenaccess,or
3、whethertheyhadaninstitutionalrepository.Reasonsformakingre-searchoutputsavailableonopenaccess,ornotdoingso,weresought,andtheroleofopenaccessmaterialasaresearchresourceinvestigated.Thesurveysfoundthatmanyresearchersmaintainedasuspicionofopenaccesspubl
4、ications,bothasauthorsandasusersofscholarlymaterial,togetherwithadegreeofignoranceaboutopenaccessandtheroleofinstitutionalrepositories.Thissuggeststhatadegreeofculturechangemaybeneeded,asinstitutionsdeveloprepositorieswithaviewtofutureresearchassessm
