2、actorsandelevatedplasmatHcylevelinNigerianhypertensive.Methods:Thirtyª²sixhypertensivepatientswererecruitedwith36ageandsexª²matchedcontrols.Theage,sexandanthropometricmeasurementsincludingheight,weightandbodymassindex(BMI)weretaken.Plasmatotalcholesterol
3、,lowdensitylipoproteincholesterol(LDLª²C),highdensitylipoproteincholesterol(HDLª²C),triglyceridesandtHcywereanalyzed.Theresultsofthetwogroupswerecompared.Results:ThemeantotalcholesterolandLDLª²Cweresignificantlyhigherinthesubjectsthaninthecontrols(P=0.01
4、and0.03respectively).Ontheotherhand,meansofHDLª²Candtriglycerideswerenotsignificantlydifferentbetweenthetwogroups(P=0.06and0.68respectively).MeantotalplasmatHcywas(12.95¡À4.9)¦Ìmol/Linhypertensivepatientswhencomparedwith(11.29¡À3.6)¦Ìmol/Linthe19controls
5、(P=0.09),howeverthemeantHcywassignificantlyhigherinhypertensivepatientswhohadstrokeormyocardialinfarctionthanthosewithoutthesecomplications(onewayAnovaF=3.63,P=0.04).SignificantpositivecorrelationwasseenbetweentHcyandsystolicbloodpressure,diastolicbloodp
