3、xemplarsofparticulartypesoftasks,reflectingontheexperiencebywritingareport,andreportingbacktocolleaguesinvolvessubstantialteacherlearning,andcanformthebasisofsustainableprofessionaldevelopment(seealsoRunnesson,2008;Stigler&Hiebert,1994).Thisarticleexplainswhatismeantbycontentspecificopen-endedtask
4、s,illustratesthewaysthatteacherswroteuptrialsofsuchtasksintheirclassrooms,andusesexcerptsfromteachers’reportingontheirtrialsatmeetingsofprojectteachersfromaclusterofnearbyschools,toillustratethetypeofteacherlearningthatresultedfromthisprocess.Contentspecificopen-endedtasksThebasisofthisaspectofthe
5、projectisthatteachersdevelopandtrialparticulartypesoftasksandreportonthestudents’learningandanychallengestheyexperienceinusingthetasktype.TheparticulartasktypethatisthebasisofthisreportisdescribedbytheprojectasStudentsinvestigatespecificmathematicalcontentthroughopen-endedtasks.Thedefinitionprovid
6、edtoteachersaspartoftheprojectis:Contentspecificopen-endedtaskshavemultiplepossibleanswers,theypromptinsightsintospecificmathematicsthroughstudentsseeinganddiscussingtherangeofpossibleanswers.Anexampleis:Drawasmanydifferenttrianglesasyoucanthathaveanareaof6cm2.Suchtasksallowunambiguousfocusonspeci
