4、istanteditorofaprogressivemagazine--TheWestminsterReview.ShetranslatedtwophilosophicalworksfromGerman.Thisbroughtherintopersonalrelationwithsomewell-knownwriters.OneofthemwasGeorgeHenryLewes,whoencouragedhertowritenovels.Shebecameanovelistwhenshewasnearlyfortyyearsold.S

5、heproducedthreeremarkablenovelswhichmadeherfamousintheliterarycircles.TheMillontheFlossisastoryaboutthetragedyofMaggie,wholivedintheVictoriantimewhenpatriarchalideologydominatedtheera.Eversincethehumansocietymarchedintopatriarchyandwomanretreatedfromthesocializedproduct
