3、stoftheworld.Appropriatetranslationcanarousethetourists’interest,soitwillbehelpfulforpublicizingChina.However,intheprocessoftranslation,owingtotheculturaldifferencesbetweenChinaandtheWesterncountries,theremustbesomedifficultiesinunderstandingthetranslation.Accordingly,greatimportance
4、hasbeenattachedtothetranslationofChinesetouristguide.Manytranslationtheorieshavebeenputintopractice.Amongthesetheories,Nida’sfunctionalequivalenceisregardedasaneffectivewaytoovercomebarriersinthemutual-understanding.EugeneA.NidaisadistinguishedAmericantranslationtheorist.Histranslati
5、ontheoryhastremendousinfluenceontheWesternaswellasChinese19translationstudies.Hisfunctionalequivalence,whichisdevelopedfromdynamicequivalence,wasintroducedintoChinainthe1980s.Nidagaveacleardefinitionof“dynamicequivalence”inthebookTheTheoryandPracticeofTranslationin1969.Inthisbook,dyn
6、amicequivalenceisdefinedas“intermsofthedegreetowhichthereceptorsofthemessageinthereceptorlanguagerespondtoitinsubstantiallythesamemannerasthereceptorsinthesourcelanguage”(TowardaScienceofTranslating24).Inthisdefinition,dynamicequivalenceisdefinedwith“receptor’sresponse”asitsnature.In
