3、ncompatibledemands(Rizo,House,andLirtzman,1970).Incompatibledemandsresultinemployeesspendinghighlevelsofefforttosatisfactorilymeetthem.Jacksonetal._s(1987)studyofpublicservicelawyersreportedapositivecorrelationbetweenroleconflictandEE.Roleambiguityresults
4、fromconfusionaboutjobresponsibilities(Rizzoetal.,1970)whichcanmaketheemployeesfeelthattheyarenotincontroloftheirjobsituationandfeeloverwhelmedbydemands.Karasek_s(1979)studyofemployeesintwocountriesfoundthatindividualsexperiencedexhaustionwhenfacedwithhigh
5、jobdemandsandlowerdecisionlatitudethuscreatingaminimumcontrolsituation.Inboundaryspanningsituations,employeeswerefoundtoexperienceEEwhentheyperceivedinconsistenciesinmanagementexpectationsandtheylackedclarityabouttheirjobresponsibilities(Babakusetal.,1999
6、;Jaramilloetal.,2006b).Basedonthiswestatethat:H3:RoleconflicthasapositiveeffectonEE.H4:RoleambiguityhasapositiveeffectonEEJobsatisfactionJSisanattitudereflectinghowwellpeoplelikeordisliketheirjob(Spector,1985).Emotionallyexhaustedworkersoftenfeelhelpless,
7、loseself-esteem,andfeelalackofaccomplishment(CordesandDougherty,1993;Moore,2000).Thiscanmakethemanxiousaboutgoingtoworkandcreateasenseoffrustrationabouttheirinabilitytodisplayenthusiasmfortheirwork(Babakusetal.,1999).Emotionallyexhaustedemployeesdevelopne
