3、VicePresident oftheUnitedStates.Eachofthestatescastsasmanyelectoralvotesasthetotalnumberofits Senators and Representatives in Congress,whileWashington,D.C.caststhesamenumberofelectoralvotesastheleast-representedstate,whichisthree.Oncethevotingforthepresidentialelectionhasconcludedandallthevote

4、sforeachstatehavebeenaccountedfor,theelectorsarethenadvisedastowhatcandidatewonthemajorityintheirstate.Theelectorsofthatstatethenwillcastthevoteofthatcandidatetorepresentthepeopleoftheirregionsmajoritydecision.However,“Twentyonestatesdonothaveprovisionsthatarefairlyspecificindirectingtheelecto

5、rstovoteforthepresidentialandvice-presidentialcandidatesoftheirparty.”[1] Thismeansthatanelectorcouldpossiblyvoteagainstthemajoritydecisionofthestateduetotheirbeingnolawthatbindselectorsotherwiseinthosestates.Inmoderntimes,almostallelectorsvoteforaparticularpresidentialcandidatethattheirstates

6、majoritydecidedupon;thus,theresultsoftheelectioncangenerallybedeterminedbasedonthestate-by-state popularvote.Thecandidatewhoreceivesan absolutemajority ofelectoralvotesforPresidentorVicePresident(currently,atleast270outofatotalof538)isthenprojectedtobeelectedtothatoffice.Ifnocandidatereceivesa
