2、beenwelldocumented,understandingthemechanismsatworkhasbeenmuchmoreelusive.Thispaperbeginswithagroundedtheoryapproachguidedbyanewtheoreticalapproachtopowerthatutilizesbothterrorismcasesandextremistsocialmediagroupstodevelopanexplanatorymodelofradicalization.Prelimina
3、ryhypothesesaredeveloped,exploredandrefinedinordertodevelopacomprehensivemodelwhichisthenpresented.ThismodelutilizesandappliesconceptsfromsocialtheoristMichelFoucault,includingtheuseofdiscourseandnetworkedpowerrelationsinordertonormalizeandmodifythoughtsandbehaviors
4、.Theinternetisconceptualizedasatypeofinstitutioninwhichthisframeworkofpoweroperatesandseekstorecruitandradicalize.Overall,findingssuggestthattheexplanatorymodelpresentedisawellsuited,yetstillincompleteinexplainingtheprocessofonlineradicalization.Keywords:Foucault,Ps
