2、sinessprocessmayextendbeyondthespecificpointthathasbeenchanged,affectingpre-conditionsrequiredforotheractivities,outputstobecreated,orrequiringnewinputs.Thispaperintroducesaconceptofascopeofachange,whoseidentificationfacilitatesfocusedeffortswhenadjustingtheBPSsystemtochanges
3、inbusinessprocesses.1IntroductionAlignmentofbusinessprocessesandaBusinessProcessSupport(BPS)system,onceestablished,needstobemaintainedovertime,throughchangestheorganizationundergoes.Asweliveinafastchangingworld,anorganizationconstantlychangesitsbusinessprocesses.Itmaybearesul
4、tofongoingimprovementefforts,changesinthebusinessenvironment,andadvancesintechnology.Whenbusinessprocessesarechanged,theBPSsystemshouldbeadjustedaccordingly.Sincechangesofvariousmagnitudesarefrequentinthebusinessworld,itisimportanttomaintainthefitbetweenthebusinessprocessesan
5、dtheBPSsysteminanevolutionaryratherthanarevolutionarymanner.Managingchangeshouldconsiderthetwosystemsinparallel:thebusinesssystemandtheBPSsystem,wherechangesinonearemanifestedtotheotherandviceversa.Whenabusinessprocessismodified,theresultingeffectmayextendbeyondthespecificpoi
6、ntthathasbeenmodified.Identifyingthescopeandmagnitudeofthiseffectisnotstraightforwardandisofgreatimportancewhenadjustingtheparallelsystemaccordingly.MisidentificationofthisscopemayresultininsufficientadjustmentoftheBPSsystemorinunnecessaryredesignefforts,extendingbeyondtheaff
7、ectedscope.Thispaperintroducesanddiscussestheconceptofascopeofchange,focusingonchangesmadeinbusinessprocesses.IdentifyingthescopeofaspecificmodificationinabusinessprocesssetsboundariestotheadjustmenteffortsmadeintheBPSsystem.Whilesoftwaresystemsareusuallydesignedtobemodularso
