2、EpigeneticphenomenainanimalsandplantsaremediatedbyDNAmethylationandstablechromatinmodifications.Therehasbeenconsiderableinterestinwhetherenvironmental
3、factorsmodulatetheestablishmentandmaintenanceofepigeneticmodifications,andcouldtherebyinfluencegeneexpressionandphenotype.Chemicalpollutants,dietarycomponents,temperaturechangesandotherexternalstressescanindeedhavelong-lastingeffectsondevelopment,metabolis
4、mandhealth,sometimeseveninsubsequentgenerations.Althoughtheunderlyingmechanismsremainlargelyunknown,particularlyinhumans,mechanisticinsightsareemergingfromexperimentalmodelsystems.Thesehaveimplicationsforstructuringfutureresearchandunderstandingdiseaseandd
5、evelopment.Ineukaryoticcells,DNAispackagedintochromatin,workonmodelsystemsitisnowclearthatepigeneticEpigeneticmodificationsChemicaladditionstoandcovalentmodificationsonthehistoneproteinsofalterationscanindeedbeinvolvedintheenvironmen-theDNAandhistonesthatt
6、hechromatinandmodificationsontheDNAitselfcantallytriggeredphenotypes.Todate,muchofthefocusinarestablymaintainedandinfluencetheexpressionofgenes.Whenheritablefrom‘environmentalepigenetics’hasbeenonDNAmethyla-donotchangetheprimaryonecellgenerationtothenext,s
