3、eofrememberingthebeautifulscenesofdaffodilsandexpressingthedeeploveofnature,hewrotethispoem.I.IntroductionofearlylifeandsomeAssessmentsWordsworthwasbornintheLakeDistrictofnorthernEngland.ThenaturalsceneryoftheEnglishlakescouldterrifyaswellasnurture,asWordswo

4、rthwouldlatertestifyintheline"Igrewupfosteredalikebybeautyandbyfear,"butitsgenerallybenignaspectgavethegrowingboytheconfidencehearticulatedinoneofhisfirstimportantpoems,"LinesComposedaFewMilesAboveTinternAbbey,"namely,"thatNatureneverdidbetraytheheartthatlov

5、edher."Wordsworthmovedonin1787toSt.John'sCollege,Cambridge,whopersuadedthathe"wasnotforthathour,norforthatplace."Themostimportantthinghedidinhiscollegeyearswastodevotehissummervacationin1790toalongwalkingtourthroughrevolutionaryFrance.Thethreeorfouryearsthat

6、followedhisreturntoEnglandwerethedarkestofWordsworth'slife.Thisdarkperiodendedin1795,whenafriend'slegacymadepossibleWordsworth'sreunionwithhisbelovedsisterDorothy--andtheirmovein1797toAlfoxdenHouse.ThereWordsworthbecamefriendswithafellowpoet,Coleridge,andthe

7、yformedapartnershipthatwouldchangebothpoets'livesandalterthecourseofEnglishpoetry.ThroughalltheseyearsWordsworthwasassailedbyviciousandtirelesscriticalattacksbycontemptuousreviewers;nogreatpoethaseverhadtoendureworse.Butfinally,bythemid-1830shisreputationhad

8、beenestablishedwithbothcriticsandthereadingpublic.WilliamWordsworthwasthecentralfigureintheEnglishRomanticrevolutioninpoetry.First,heformulatedinhispoemsandhisessaysanewattitudetowardnature.This
