2、turesarecomingintocontactatanever-increasingrate.Inthe21stcentury,China'smodernizationsarecloselyboundupwithinterculturalcommunication.AftertheannouncementofBeijingbeingthehostcityofthe2008OlympicGames,inChina,wehavesetoffanewupsurgeoflearningEnglish.Aroundthewholecountry,
3、nomattertheoldortheyoung,theyareallpreparingforthecominginternationalevent.SocultivatinginterculturalcommunicativecompetenceinEnglishisthewholeworldneed.Infact,manyforeignscholarsandChinesescholarshavedonealotofstudiesconcerninghowtodevelopthestudents'cross-culturalcompete
4、nce,becauseEnglishlanguageteachingandthetextbooksinChinapaidmoreattentiontolanguageformsthantotheirsocialmeanings,totheirpracticalapplicationsandtheculturaldifferences,manykindsofcommunicativeerrorsweremade.Soitisurgenttocultivatestudents’interculturalcommunicativecompeten
5、ceinEnglishteaching.II.ReviewsofLanguage-cultureStudiesA.LanguageandCultureLanguageispartofcultureandplaysaveryimportantroleinit.Somesocialscientistsconsideritthekeystoneofculture.Withoutlanguagetheymaintainculturewouldnotbepossible.Ontheotherhand,languageisinfluencedandsh
6、apedbyculture,itreflectsculture.Inthebroadestsense,languageisthesymbolicrepresentationofapeople,anditcomprisestheirhistoricalandculturalbackgroundsaswellastheirapproachtolifeandtheirwaysoflivingandthinking.Then,whatislanguage?Whatisculture?Whatistherelationshipbetweenthem?
