2、thestudents,includingtheEnglishmajorsandthenon-Englishmajors,havetolearnEnglish.BoththeteachersandthelearnershavetriedavarietyofstrategiesinordertoachievehighproficiencyofEnglish.Languageisatoolforcommunicationanditcanonlyrealizeitsfunctionwhenitisusedindifferentr
3、ealisticcommunicativecontexts.Thus,tolearnaforeignlanguagesuccessfullymeanstoacquiretheskillofusingthetargetlanguageproperlyandexactlyindifferentsocialsituations.Inordertoachievethisfinalaim,productivevocabularyandfluentusageofallgrammaticalrulesinsentencesmakingb
4、ecomeespeciallyimportantinlearningaforeignlanguage.Andinthedevelopmentandacquisitionoftheskill,recitationplaysaveryimportantroleinChinawherethelearnershavetheirownparticularlearningbackgroundandtraditionallearningstrategy.InChina,Englishcanonlybelearnedasaforeignl
5、anguageinsteadofasecondlanguagesincethereisnoEnglishlanguageenvironmentatall.Inordertomakethelearnersacquirethelanguageskillseffectively,differentlearningstrategieshavebeenusedinthepastyears.Thesestrategiesincludegrammaticaltranslation,directapproach,thesituationa
6、lapproach,listeningandspeakingapproachandthecommunicativemethodology.BecauseofthevarietyofteachingstrategyintroducedviiintoChina,recitationastheChinesetraditionallearningstrategyissubmergedandabandoned.Inthispaper,thewriterreviewstherelatedlanguagelearningtheories
7、andthestudiesofrecitationandattemptstoexplorealearningstrategywhichispracticalfortheChineseEnglishlearnersatthebasicstageincollege.Thatis“extensiverecitation”,whichisbasedonthetheoryof“inputhypothesis”andaccordswiththecognitiveprocessofhumanmind.Itisrealizedontheb
8、asisofcomprehensionandappreciation.Thelearnersmustfirstreadextensivelyaccordingtotheirowninterest,andthenchoosesomepartsfromthereadingmaterialtorecite.L
