3、lyfoundonlymodestrelationshipsbetweentheseattitudinalvariablesandvoluntaryturnover.Inhis1976reviewofthenatureandconsequencesofjobsatisfaction,Locke(1976)notedthatcorrelationsbetweenjobsatisfactionandvoluntaryturnoverwereoftenfoundtobemoderateatbest.Incontrast
4、,inreviewingtheturnoverandabsenteeismliterature,PorterandSteers(1973)suggestedthatagreateremphasisshouldbeplacedonunderstandingtheturnoverdecisionprocess.Specifically,theysuggestedthat“intenttoleave”isalikelymediatortotheattitude-behaviorrelationshipandrepres
5、entsthelaststeppriortoquitting.In1975,FishbeinandAjzenprovidedatheoreticalbasisforfocusingonbehavioralintentions.Theirtheoryofattitudespostulatesthat“thebestsinglepredictoronanindividual’sbehaviorwillbeameasureofhisintentiontoperformthatbehavior”(FishbeinandA
6、jzen,1975,p.369).Finally,Mobley(1977)hypothesizedamodeloftheintermediatelinkagesbetweenjobsatisfactionandvoluntaryturnover,whichoutlinedseveralcognitivedecisionsmadebyanemployeebetweenexperiencingjobdissatisfactionandleavingtheorganization.Thesestepsincludeth
