3、nlymodestrelationshipsbetweentheseattitudinalvariablesandvoluntaryturnover.Inhis1976reviewofthenatureandconsequencesofjobsatisfaction,Locke(1976)notedthatcorrelationsbetweenjobsatisfactionandvoluntaryturnoverwereoftenfoundtobemoderateatbest.Incontrast,inreviewing
4、theturnoverandabsenteeismliterature,PorterandSteers(1973)suggestedthatagreateremphasisshouldbeplacedonunderstandingtheturnoverdecisionprocess.Specifically,theysuggestedthat“intenttoleave”isalikelymediatortotheattitude-behaviorrelationshipandrepresentsthelaststepp
5、riortoquitting.In1975,FishbeinandAjzenprovidedatheoreticalbasisforfocusingonbehavioralintentions.Theirtheoryofattitudespostulatesthat“thebestsinglepredictoronanindividual’sbehaviorwillbeameasureofhisintentiontoperformthatbehavior”(FishbeinandAjzen,1975,p.369).Fin
6、ally,Mobley(1977)hypothesizedamodeloftheintermediatelinkagesbetweenjobsatisfactionandvoluntaryturnover,whichoutlinedseveralcognitivedecisionsmadebyanemployeebetweenexperiencingjobdissatisfactionandleavingtheorganization.Thesestepsincludethinkingofquitting,evaluat
