3、easetheirchancesofratification.Fraser(1990)saarkerentandsaveface.InChina,professorenaintheChineselanguageandclassifiedhedgesgrammatically.ChenYide(2000)analyzedthepragmaticfunctionsofhedgesinverbalmunication.Otherscholars,includingLiZhian(1999),YangYujun(2002)andY
4、ingLihong(2009)employedthecooperativeprincipleandpolitenessprincipletostudyhedges.CaiLongquanandDaiitmenttothetruthvalueofhisspeechinthelightofspeechacttheory,cooperativeprincipleandadaptationtheory.InLiFuying’sstudy(1995)fromthesociolinguisticperspective,theuseof
5、hedgescanbeaffectedbygender,poicdiscourse,literaryents,neberofresearcheshavebeenmadetodiscussthecross-culturalorcross-disciplinarydifferencesintheuseofhedges,mostofpiricalstudies.Holybelieve,refertolexicalitemsusedbyent(Holmes,1982).AccordingtoHolmes(1984),booster
