1、EqualityImpactAssessment(EqIA)IntroductionEqIA’sarealegalrequirementtohelppublicauthoritieseliminatediscriminationandprejudiceagainstpeoplefromdifferentsocialgroups,promoteequalityofopportunity,inclusiveandfairservicedeliveryandemploymentpractice.EqIAisameansforensuringthatanypolicy,procedureorserv
2、iceintroduceddoesnotaffectoneormoregroupsofpeopleincludingstaff,peoplewhouseservices,carersandotherusersoftheTrust’sservicesinanadverseway.ThebenefitofEqIAisnotsimplyachievinglegalcompliancebutameanstobestpracticeandtodeliveringmoreeffective,appropriateandinclusivepoliciesandpractices.WhatisanEqual
3、ityImpactAssessment?•AnEqIAinvolvesgatheringandusingevidencetomakeajudgementabouthowcurrentorintendedpolicies,practicesandservicesaffectorislikelytoaffectdifferentgroupsofpeoplewhenitisimplemented.Thisiswithparticularreferencetoanydifferentialexperiencesoroutcomesforthatgroupofpeople.Theaimistoiden
4、tifyadverseoutcomes.•Theassessmentshouldidentifywhetherthepoliciesanditsrelatedprocedures,practicesandservicesaffectpeoplefromdifferentequalitystrandsindifferentwaysand,iftheydo,thenitshouldestablishwhetherthedifferentialimpactispositive,negativeorneutral.•Ifthepolicyisidentifiedashavinganegativedi
5、fferentialimpactthatcannotbejustified,actionwillneedtobetakentoremove,reduceormitigatethisimpact.Thismightinvolveamendingthepolicy,introducinganalternativepolicyortakingothermeasurestooffsettheeffects.•ItistheoutcomesoftheEqIAthatmakeitavaluabletool,nottheprocessitself.Thepurposeistoidentifyactions
