4、usedbyrun-off-roadcrashesandfailuresofthedriverstoavoidobstaclesinfrontofthem.Thiscanhappeninnearcollisionencounters,wherethedrivershouldsteerinordertoavoidacrash.Inthesesituations,somedriverssteertoomuchandgoofftheroad,andsomedonotsteerenoughandcollidewiththeobstacle.Inthisstudy,thea
5、uthorsdevelopedasteeringcontrolcollisionavoidancesystem(SCCAS)tohelpdriverstosafelyperformseveremanoeuvresandavoidsuchcrashes.Thissystemisactivatedbythedriver’ssteeringinput,andwasimplementedinacardrivingsimulatortostudyhumaninteractions.Testingthesubjectswithnocollisionavoidancefeatu
6、reresultedincollisionwiththeobstaclesin61outof63encounters;whereas,usingtheimplementedSCCAS,thesubjectsavoided44outof60nearcollisionencountersinanewscenariowiththesamelevelofdifficultyastheoriginaltests.Thepost-experimentsurveysrevealedthatbesidestheeffectivenessofthesysteminreducingt
