2、csoftheALICESSDtotheoff-detectorADC,ananalogbufferchip(ALABUF)hasbeendesigned.Thedesignisperformedin0.25mCMOStechnology.Inputsofthedesignaswellasthedesigngoalsspecificationtobemetaredescribedalongwithcircuitoptimizationproceduresanddetailchipdescription.Re

3、sultsontestingofthechipstakenfromtheexperimentalbatcharepresentedandcomparedtothesimulations.Introduction.TheALICESSDdetectorwillbereadoutbytheHAL25front-endchip[1].Thischipcontains128analoguechannelswithpreamps,shapers,sample-and-holdcircuits,analoguememo

4、ryandadifferentialoutputbuffer.Front-endchipsonP-sideandN-sideofthedetectoroperatingatdifferentpotentialswillbeconnectedtoanexternalelectronicsviadecouplingcapacitors[2](seeFig.1).Thelimitedspaceavailablestipulatefordaisy-chainconnectionofthefront-endchips

5、oneachsideofthedetectorbymeansofalow-volumelow-massKaptoncable.Toprovideconnectionwithoff-detectorelectronicsa25mlongtwisted-paircableisforeseen.Fig.1.Principaldiagramoftheon-detectorelectronicsofALICESSD.Tobeabletousethesametwin-paircableforread-outoffron

7、ectedbyexternaldisturbancesknownaspick-upnoise.Inordertoreachthebestsignal-to-noiseratio,thesignalmustbeamplifiedtothemaximumpossiblevalue(rail-to-railofsupplyvoltages,inprinciple).Schematicsolutionofsuchanamplifierisextremelypowerconsumingandhencecannotbe

8、implementedinoutputbufferofasinglefront-endchip.Astructurewithanoutputbuffersharedovermanyfront-endchipsismuchmorereasonablesolution(seeFig.1).Allthemore,thebuffercoulddiminishexternaldisturbanceswhenhavingah
