3、ffectsfollowingadministrationofCdCl25µMand20μMinHuh7cells.Theresultsofthisstudyrevealedanincreaseinactivitiesofthecriticalscavengingfreeradicalsenzymes,catalaseandglutathioneperoxidase,indicatinganoxidativestressresponsetocadmiumadministration.Theimpairinglucose-6-phosphated
4、ehydrogenaseactivity,anditsconsequence,thediminutionofthecellularNADPHcontent,hadasaresultthedecreaseinglutathionereductaseactivity.ThealterationintheactivityofenzymesinvolvedinoxidativestressobservedinourstudiesislikelytoaffectthecapacityofHuh7cellstodefendthemselvesandresp
5、ondtocadmium-inducedoxidativestress.Keywords:cadmium,oxidativestress,catalase,glutathioneperoxidase,glucose-6-phosphatedehydrogenase,glutathionereductaseIntroductionCadmium(Cd)isanabundantandwidelyspreadtoxicantthatiscontinuouslyaccumulatedintheenvironmentalduetoindustrialac
6、tivities.TheionicformofCd(Cd2+)isusuallycombinedwithionicformsofoxygen(cadmiumoxide,CdO),chloride(cadmiumchloride,CdCl2)orsulfur(cadmiumsulfate,CdSO4).HumansareexposedtoCd2+primarythroughtheingestionofcontaminatedfood[1]andtheinhalationofcigarettesmoke[2].TheexposuretoCd2+on
7、achronicbasiscancauseadverseeffectsintheliver,kidney,brain,lung,pancreas,testis,placentaandbone[3,4,5].Cadmiumbioavailability,persistenceandbioaccumulationmakeitpotentiallylethal[6].Themechanism(s)forCdtoxicityarenotwellunderstood.IthasbeendemonstratedthatCdexposureproducesr
8、eactiveoxygenspecies(ROS)[7],lipidperoxidation[8],DNAdamage,andapoptosis[9]
