3、tianlegalacts(AgriculturalLandAct,OfficialGazette66/2001,RegionalPlanningAct,OfficialGazette30/94,ContentandCriteriaRulebook,OfficialGazette…106/98)stipulatetheneedtopreservebetteragriculturalsoilsbyavoidingnon-agriculturallanduseaswellastheobligation
4、ofsoilclassificationanddesigningbasesaccordingtothelandsuitabilityclasses.Pursuanttothesaidregulations,noconstructionshouldbeundertakenonhighlyvaluableagriculturalsoils,whichundertheFAOclassification(FAO,1976,BrinckmanandSmith,1972)correspondtoS1suita
5、bilityclass,valuableagriculturalsoils(S2suitabilityclass),andotheragriculturalsoils(S3suitabilityclass).Constructionmayfreelyproceedontheotheragriculturalandforestsoils,belongingtothelowerclassesoflandsuitabilityornot-suitability(currentlyorpermanentl
6、ynotsuitablesoils).Thesaidstandardsclassifyalsoforestsoilsintothreegroups:forestsoilsforforestrymanagementpurposes(F1),forestsoilswithaprotectiveroleintermsofsoilconservation(F2),andforestsoilsforspecialpurposes–nationalparks,naturereserves,etc.(F3).T
7、hepaperprovidesexamplesofsoilclassificationfortheneedsofdesigningtheregionalplanoftheLika-SenjCounty,wherethethematicmapshavetobemadeonascaleof1:100,000andintheLepoglavamunicipalityonascaleof1:25,000,becausetheapplicableLawpostulatesthesecriteriaforla
