4、daptingto,augmenting,ortransformingtheexistinginstitutionalenvironment,andcandosoeitherindependentlyorincollaborationwithothers.Weusetheresultingtypologyofsixdistinctnonmarketstrategiestoprovideanintegrativereviewofnonmarketstrategyresearch.Wethenextendthisframeworktoexaminethechoicebetweennonmarke

5、tstrategies,arguingthatthischoicedependsuponwhethertheexistinginstitutionalenvironmentisincompleteorcaptured,anddiscussingotherdriversofnonmarketstrategychoice,therelationshipbetweenthesestrategies,andtheirsocialimpact,soastoprovideanagendaforfutureresearch.Managerialsummary:Thepursuitofcompetitive

6、advantageoftenrequiresfirmstooperateincontextswhereexistingrulesandregulationsprovideinadequateprotection.Disruptivetechnologiesopenupnewopportunitiesforvaluecreation,butittakesyearsbeforeappropriateregulationsareintroduced.Economicreformsopenupnewmarkets,buttheseareoftenregulatedtofavorincumbentsa
