3、ng,includingrawmaterials,productiontechnology,processcontrolandendproducts.Thecomplexityoftheprocesses,thescaleofoperationandproductionspeedsleavelittleroomforerrorormalfunction.Modernpapermakingwouldnotbepossiblewithoutapropercommandofagreatvarietyoftechnologies,inparticularadvancedprocesscont
4、rolanddiagnosticmethods.Notonlyhasthetechnologyprogressedandnewtechnologyemerged,butourunderstandingofthefundamentalsofunitprocesses,rawmaterialsandproductpropertieshasalsodeepenedconsiderably.Thevariationsintheindustry'sheterogeneousrawmaterials,andthesophisticationofpulpingandpapermakingproce
5、ssesrequireaprofoundunderstandingofthemechanismsinvolved.Paperandboardproductsarecomplexinstructureandcontainmanydifferentcomponents.Therequirementsplacedonthewaytheseproductsperformarewide,variedandoftenconflicting.Thoseinvolvedinproductdevelopmentwillcontinuetoneedaprofoundunderstandingofthec
6、hemistryandphysicsofbothrawmaterialsandproductstructures.Paperhasplayedavitalroleintheculturaldevelopmentofmankind.Itstillhasakeyroleincommunicationandisneededinmanyotherareasofoursociety.Thereisnodoubtthatitwillcontinuetohaveanimportantplaceinthefuture.Papermust,however,maintainitscompetitiven
