2、andOrganizations,UniversityofArizona,Arizona,USAABSTRACTContrarytorationalExpectedMonetaryValue(EMV)predictionsthatnomoneywillbetransferredinTrustGames,inexperimentsplayersmakepositivetransfers.TheoristshaveproposedmodifyingtheSendersutilityfunctionwhileretainingutility-m
3、aximizationassumptionstoaccountforthisbehavior.SuchaccountsassumethatSenderscangraspthepossibleoutcomesoftheirchoices,theirprobabilities,andutilities.Inreality,however,Senderschoicesareunexpectedlycomplex,andtheassumptionthattheyapproximateexpectedutilitymaximizationishig
4、hlyimplausible.Instead,wesuggestthatSendersareguidedbygeneralpropensitiestotrustothers.TwoexperimentsexaminetheeffectofinducingconsequentialthoughtonSenderbehavior.Oneinducedconsequentialthoughtdirectly;theotherdidsoindirectly.Theamountsentwassignificantlyreducedfollowinge
