3、formation,theuseoftheasymmetrictoothedgeartoimprovethefilletcapacityinbendingisexaminedinthisstudy.Non-standardasymmetricrackcutterswithrequiredpressureanglesandmodulearedevelopedtogeneratetherequiredpinionandgearofadrivewithasymmetricinvolutesurfacesandtro-choidalfilletp

4、rofiles.Therespectiveprofilesthusgeneratedareoptimizedforbalancedfilletstressesthatareequalandpossiblythelowestalso.Forthisstudyofoptimization,severalnon-standardasymmetricrackcuttersaredesignedtoaccommodatedifferentcombinationsinthevaluesofpressureangle,toplandthicknessrat

5、io,profileshift,speedratioandtheasymmetricfactors.Howeverforanydrivewithagivencenterdistanceandaspeedratio,onlytwonon-standardasymmetricrackcutters,oneforthepinionandotherforthegearareusedtogeneratearequirednumbersofpinionandgearwithdifferentcuttershiftvaluesforthepurpose

6、ofoptimization.Theinfluenceoftheseparametersonthemaximumfilletstresshasbeenanalyzedtosuggesttheoptimumvaluesoftheseparametersthatimprovethefilletcapacityinbending.Theoptimizationoftheasymmetricspurgeardriveiscarriedoutusinganiterativeprocedureonthecalculatedmaximumfilletstr

7、essesthroughFEMfordifferentrackcuttershiftsandfinallytheoptimumvaluesofrackcuttershiftsaresuggestedforthegivencenterdistanceandthespeedratioofanasymmetricgeardrive.Comparisonshavealsobeenmadesuccess-fullywiththeresultsoftheAGMAandtheISOcodesforsymmetricgearstojustifythere
