4、ighterpiecestoseemtooheavy,andwedon’twantheavierpiecestoseemtoopetty.Wealsouseabroadrangeofartandphotography,andthedesignhastoworkwellwiththat,too.Atthesametime,themagazineneedstohaveaconsistentfeel,needstounderscorethesensethateverythinginitispartofon
5、eAtlanticWorld.TheprimarytypefacesGarlanchoseforthistaskareTimesRoman,foramorereadablebodytype,andBauerBodoni,foramorestylishandflexibledisplaytype(articletitles,largeinitials,andsoon).Otheraspectsofthenewdesignarestructural.Thearticlesinthefrontofthem
6、agazine,whichonceflowedintooneanother,nowstandontheirown,togainprominence.TheTravelcolumn,nowfeaturedineveryissue,hasbeenmovedfromthebacktothefront.Asnotedinthisspacelastmonth,theword“Monthly”rejoins“TheAtlantic”onthecover,afteradecadelongabsence.JudyG
